MEET THE MAKER

REBECCA SARAH BLACK

Hi! My name is Rebecca, I'm a trained jeweller and self-taught embroidery artist based in Dunfermline, Scotland.

I started stitching in 2020. I was looking for a new creative project and craft I could learn to keep me busy and help with my mental health.  It needed to be something I could easily do from my sofa, as I didn’t have the space for jewellery tools. So I started learning to embroider!

I'm inspired by flora and fauna, and traditional hand embroidery techniques.

In a previous life, I was a jeweller! I studied Jewellery & Metal design at DJCAD in Dundee, graduating in 2014. I then went on to run my own small jewellery business in Edinburgh, and did this until 2019.

My jewellery was inspired by the rocky Scottish coastline, and I used lots of different materials, including silver, gold, gemstones, resin, concrete and something a bit wild - cow bone!

One day, I'd like to somehow merge jewellery with embroidery. I've just yet to discover how I want to that.
